Sophie is a left below knee amputee from Perth, Western Australia. She first became an amputee when she was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma as a teenager, this was originally a partial foot, but Sophie was driven by the support of my family and amputees from Limbs 4 life and online support groups to electively go for below-knee for her quality of life and mobility. Sophie was so limited and lost as a partial foot amputee that below-knee was such a gift and she has spent the last three years building her life with as much as she can fit into it!
Sophie is currently studying library and information services through her local tafe, but in her spare time, She loves to get out into nature and do some photography, meditation and yoga, thrift shopping and create outfits. She also enjoys working on building strength and fitness at home and at the gym.
Sophie has been a part of rescuing and fostering small animals for quite some time too, she has two guinea pigs and a small rabbit. One goal of hers is to be part of the limbs 4 life peer support, she wants to give back to the organisations and charities that supported her throughout her cancer/amputation and mental health journey.
Sophie was lucky enough to be asked by the sarcoma centre of the hospital she went to, to give advice and support to a woman who was facing a decision like the one she faced. It was one of the most important moments of her life and she felt incredibly proud to give back and support someone who really appreciated the information Sophie could offer.
