Yasmina McGlone has passion for Para Sports, storytelling, and the pursuit of understanding what it truly means to live courageously. Her journey and perspective has been shaped, particularly during her upbringing, where she struggled with the challenge of accepting her body's differences. She couldn't readily find individuals like herself, Yasmina felt a sense of alienation and felt like she didn’t belong despite trying her best to fit in. However, as she transitioned into adulthood, this internal conflict propelled her towards a journey of self-exploration and acceptance.
Although Yasmina had lived with her condition since birth, itwasn't until the age of 20 that she received a formal diagnosis. Seeking solace and personal growth, at 21, she made the bold decision to relocate to Australia, aiming to foster greater confidence within herself. Throughout her travels in Australia, she actively confronted her fears and immersed herself innew experiences. It was in 2018, that Yasmina stumbled upon wheelchair sports which altered her life trajectory.Through her participation in wheelchair AFL, Yasmina began toembrace her disability, recognizing the unique strengths and perspectives it gifted her. The intensity and camaraderie of sport ignited a fiery passion within her, sparking a newfound sense of purpose. Notably, her involvement in wheelchair AFL opened doors to unforeseen opportunities, propelling her into a career in public speaking. Harnessing the power of her own narrative, Yasmina shares her story and the invaluable lessons gleaned along the way, empowering others to embrace their individuality and approach life with courage. In her inaugural year of wheelchair AFL, Yasmina earned herrecognition, standing as the sole female recipient of an esteemed award. Votedas the Best and Fairest for the Richmond Football Club's wheelchair football team. Beyond the thrill of competition, Yasmina finds profound fulfillment in both the physicality of sport and the platform it provides to inspire others. The part that Yasmina enjoyed the most about this was the platform it created to support in created inclusive programs for children with disabilities within Richmond football club and then going on to volunteer with the Moira Kelly Creating Hope foundation.
Since Moving to the Gold Coast in 2021 Yasmina Supported in setting up Wheelchair AFL in Queensland which has since been taking on by AFL Queensland. Yasmina also works in supporting young children with disabilities and changing the perceptuion of Disability.
