Ziggy is bright, beautiful and rocking an extra chromosome (Down syndrome). His lust for life and desire to experience the world and everything around him is joyful. His smile makes others smile and his eyes catch their attention. He loves music (David Bowie is an obvious favourite), to dance, play and give everyone high fives and rounds of applause.
He is smashing his milestones and showing everyone who meets him that living with Down syndrome is down right amazing.
Ziggy has the medical condition Down syndrome. His condition doesn’t impact him negatively on a day-to-day basis in terms of wellbeing and health. He is happy, bright and beautiful.
In terms of physical ability and development his condition means he tracks behind a typical child. Ziggy is doing brilliantly in this area and can sit up unaided and bum shuffle around the room. He can stand up on his own from sitting and stand with support / against something. He has started to bend his legs to take a few steps supported. His fine motor skills are also coming along well (he can pick things up with finger and thumb and is very comfortable holding and playing with toys).
Ziggy is developmentally delayed in terms of speech and cognitive activity. He can babble sounds and say Mama and understands basic, familiar commands. We do Makaton with him to aid communication. He is also walking and taking quite a few steps now !
