Maria is a 23 year old female who’s been told quite a lot she has a baby face and gets mistaken to be a few years younger than she actually is sometimes. She was diagnosed with Crohn’s when she was 10 years old and so has been dealing with it most of her life. She was 22 years old when she went into emergency surgery and had her entire large bowel and anus removed and was left with a stoma bag so it's been over a year now, she has been learning to live with it and embrace it. Having a stoma bag at a young age is seen as taboo in her community as she is a South Asian Muslim girl. She has an older brother and two younger brother and a little sister. Her youngest siblings are both autistic and non -verbal as well and so she’s had a lot responsibilities growing up when helping to take care of them. Before she was diagnosed with Crohn’s, she was a very sporty kid, having won quite a few medals from sport tournaments but after constantly becoming ill from Crohn’s she quit sports. She didn’t really have time to find new hobbies be tween her health and taking care of her siblings. Recently, after having her stoma bag, she’s gotten into gym and taking daily walks and is focused on taking care of herself and body with the new found health her stoma bag has given her.
