Zebedee joins the BFMA
Zebedee is a world-leading inclusive talent agency, dedicated to and recognised for increasing the authentic representation of people with disabilities, visible differences, and the trans and non-binary community.
Founded in 2017 by Laura Winson and Zoe Proctor, Zebedee represents over 2,000 models, actors and creators in the UK, Europe, USA and Australia.
The BFMA (founded in 1974) is the trade association of the UK model industry. Their aim is to protect and manage the career of their models.
By being accepted by the BFMA, it shows that agencies like Zebedee are getting recognised and validated for their efforts as a diverse talent agency who advocate for visible differences.
Zebedee founder, Laura Winson, said “We are as professional as other mainstream agencies and provide world class talent and consultancy services.
“It’s sad to see that this year, there seems to be less diversity being cast by brands. For example, after the surge in representation of curve models in recent years, this is now in decline due to weight loss drug culture.
“There is still little to no disability representation at fashion weeks around the world, and Zebedee will continue to work hard to change this.
“Disabled people make up an estimated 20% of the global population, so it is only fair that they are authentically represented in fashion. In addition, the spending power of the community is thought to be around $13 trillion each year, so the business case for inclusion is clear.
“We believe that brands should be confident in casting diverse talent and we are optimistic that by joining the BFMA, we will see more equal representation in the media and look forward to helping set the highest standards.”
BFMA Director, John Horner said “We’re so glad to have Zebedee on board and hope it encourages more brands to bring disability and inclusion into their campaigns.
“We look forward to learning more from them as the first organisation in the BFMA dedicated to increasing the authentic representation of people with disabilities and visible differences, and the trans and non-binary community.”
